All 32 World Cup Stops to date are now 26 minutes of exciting edited TV shows. Usually completed within days of the Podium presentations, they are then issued globally to Broadcasters which have a combined audience of over 500 million viewers. In some respects, that is the easy part of the marketing mix !

Once distributed, finding out exactly when each Broadcaster actually airs our World Cup TV shows is a challenge which is just too big for many sports. For our World Cup Stops, we are provided with some Broadcast schedules in advance – usually in Europe, the popular SKYSPORTS schedules. As ever, the reason why all schedules are not available in advance is usually a cost one. Major sports have the resources to purchase both the schedules in advance - and later the final broadcast certificates.

Here are the very latest World Cup Broadcast schedules – for both our recent Linyi China and Kuching Sarawak Malaysia World Cup Stops covering Wakeboard and Jump in Linyi and Wakeboard in Kuching. The good news is that ll are also available in short clips on our special World Cup YouTube TV Channel.

This 31st World Cup Stop of the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) was impressive by any standards. By combining efforts with the historic Sarawak Regatta in Kuching City which dates back to 1872, it attracted the largest audience ever seen in this successful World Cup Series. The Regatta involved a record 6,700 Paddlers and 345 boat teams. The event also included the Stars of Florida Waterski Show Team. With the support of Sarawak State Government represented by the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage, it was sponsored by World of Watches, Revive Isotonic Drinks, Riverside Majestic Hotel, MasterCraft, International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) and the Malaysian Waterski & Wakeboard Federation.Only the top 30 IWWF Men and Women Wakeboard Riders were invited to this US$95,000 cash prize competition. This included both current World Wakeboard Champions. It differed from other World Cups Stops by ensuring that those who performed best at the IWWF World Wakeboard Championships in Italy recently were included. As always, MasterCraft provided the competition boats and technical support.

RTM provided the live TV coverage. The IWWF produced a Webcast which received many messages of congratulations from around the World. Already, the coverage has been archived and is available free by signing up at : http://247.tv/waterski/2011-sarawak-wakeboard-world-cup Following two days of qualifying Rounds, the Men’s and Women’s Wakeboard Finals took place in glorious sunshine for the first time at Sarawak’s Kuching City Waterfront, directly opposite the spectacular riverside Parliamen building. Of the six Women Finalists, Sasha Christian (SIN) set the pace with an opening score of 48.90. Caroline Djupso (SWE) quickly responded with 59.78 points. Japan’s 24 year-old Miku Asai surprised many with an even better performance of 65.22. This was certainly a possible winning score with just three athletes remaining. Belgium’s Elke Venken then failed to cope with the busy water conditions. Her 46.99 points removed her from serious contention. Having taken the Silver Medal at the 2011.

World Championships in Italy recently, Australian Amber Wing was second last off the dock . None were surprised that she outperformed all at this point with a very impressive 67.23 score. Last out was the 18 year-old recently crowned 2011 World Champion, Raimi Merrit USA. She already has many World Cup titles to her credit, including Qatar, China and Egypt. As one of the most physically strong Wakeboard Riders today, her power was a distinct advantage. While it may not have been her usually perfect performance, she did succeed in scoring 68.79 to take the 2011 Sarawak Women’s Wakeboard World Cup title in style plus the cash prize of US$8,000.

As the Men’s Final arrived, the temperature had risen to 34C and the crowds were enormous. To add to the excitement, the six Wakeboard Riders who made it through to this last stage combined three very young rising
stars and three experienced international Pros. The experienced Sam Carne GBR opened up with a respectable but not outstanding score of 64.57. Eighteen-year old Daniel Powers USA responded.

As the current IWWF World Junior Champion, his 77.2 points received an ovation. The young guns had arrived. Then the experienced 29 year-old past World Champion, Andrew Adkison USA, rose to the occasion with a massive 87.90 performance to take the lead. The pressure was truly on. Back to the youngsters. New-comer Steel Lafferty USA (19) really impressed all this weekend but fell slightly short of Adkison with 79.78. All that remained were the experienced Dan Nott GBR and the young 18 year-old Harley Clifford AUS. To the amazement of all, Dan Nott had a terrible day in spite of his four European Champion titles. His score of 45.57 was a disaster for him. Australia’s Harley Clifford is already a sensation. As he finally landed his Heel-side 720, the huge applause from the packed Kuching City Waterfront crowd said it all. The Australian youngster’s score of 92.67 showed once again that he is truly in a league of his own right now. He has now added the 2011 Sarawak Wakeboard World Cup Champion title to his enormous list of achievements to date and US$15,000 to his winnings.

This was quite an extraordinary IWWF World Cup Stop. The enormous support provided by Sarawak State Government represented by the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage, ensured that all the facilities were truly first class. Outdoor Jumbo Screens, massive Sound System, great Starting Docks, on-site Secretarial facilities, plus Security, Seating and a huge range of merchandising stalls and restaurants, created a real World Cup Village atmosphere. The event also broke all World Cup records in the volume of Newspaper coverage received over the weekend with some impressive Stars of Florida and Wakeboard photos. Today it was reported that the impact of combing a watersport event with the historic Sarawak Regatta has encouraged all to build on this concept for the future to boost tourism and the local economy. Kuching is certainly a city worth entering on anybody’s vacation list !

As part of the historic Sarawak Regatta which dates back to 1872, over 100,000 spectators are expected to enjoy the Wakeboard World Cup Stop this Saturday and Sunday in these magnificent tropical surroundings.

Supported by the Sarawak State Government represented by the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage, the organisers are the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) and Waterski & Wakeboard World Cup Sdn.Bhd.

Most of the athletes from twenty countries are already on site and will take part in the coinciding Malaysia Day Celebrations. Riders Dan Nott GBR and Nikita Martyanov RUS took advantage of the many local tourist attractions and headed for the nearby unique and exclusively Asian Orangutan Reserve with their cameras and were not disappointed. First to inspect the very impressive Kuching competition facilities both on and off the water were World Champion Harley Clifford AUS, US Junior Masters Champion Daniel Powers, past World Champion and World Silver Medalist 2011 Andrew Adkison USA, and the young Rookie of the Year sensation Steel Lafferty USA. Also arriving today are World Champion Raimi Merritt USA and the two Irish Junior World Medalists, David O’Caoimh and Sian Hurst who will experience World Cup excitement for the first time. The overall quality of the World Cup Riders is as high as ever and with some new faces on the dock, it will be fascinating to see who takes the Kuching World Cup titles on Sunday evening.

RTM will televise this Wakeboard World Cup Stop, Streamyx WiFi will provide the signal for the Webcast producers Horizon Solutions, and ProActive will produce the TV Edited Programme for global distribution in the coming week. The combination of the LED Giant Screen on site and Plasma Monitors will make the action available to all, both in Kuching and around the world.

HUGE CROWDS AGAIN ENJOY OPENING EVENTS AT KUCHING SARAWAK BORNEO STOP

Stars of Florida in Kuching

Practice kicked off on Friday at 07.30hrs on the downtown river site here in Kuching. With 32C from dawn, Riders and spectators were on site from the very start. By 09.30hrs, both Women and Men Practice was completed. The local organisation directed by Hanifah Yoong has been flawless and time management has been perfect from the start.

Following the Practice session in rolly waters, it was time to introduce the Stars of Florida Ski Show Team. Don Buffa yet again delivered a sample for the crowd which brought early morning applause from the appreciative audience. They will be back on Friday night for the enormous Malaysian Day Boat Parade Celebrations and Fireworks display. Being part of this Sarawak Regatta which dates from 1872 really is an honor for our World Cup Series.

So, at 10.30 hours, the Womens Semi-Finals kicked off. This immediately began with drama. Our Heat 1 first three Riders went down on their first trick. Were we about to see some real upsets here ? Ireland’s Sian Hurst was unlucky to be first out in the rolly water and others adjusted as this Heat progressed. Amber Wing AUS dominated ahead of Elke Venken BEL and both progressed to the Finals. Sian Hurst IRL and Robbie Rendo ARG will have to wait for tomorrow’s LCQ. In Heat 2, the standard rose again. Here World Champion Raimi Merrit USA was in a league of her own and went straight through to the finals. To the surprise of many Japan’s Miku Asai beat the rest of the field to also go through and waved to the spectators all the way back to the dock. This left Caroline Djupsjo SWE, Sasha Christian SIN and Gina Faccio RSA to join Sian Hurst and Robbie Rendo in the LCQ on Saturday.

On Saturday we also go live with our Webcast. For the details, please take a look at http://www.iwsf.com where you will also get the daily results.

Hot weather, very friendly and helpful hosts, great food and a non-stop action programme is making this another really great World Cup Stop.

The atmosphere here in Kuching City in Sarawak Borneo is fantastic. It seems like the World Cup Stop has already started with thousands on site all day today just to enjoy the preparations for the weekend’s action on the water. Between the Malaysia Day celebrations, the historic Sarawak Regatta which dates back to 1872 – and our Wakeboard World Cup Stop, its like an enormous Carnival. The riverside is full of restaurants and shops and it seems like every family in Sarawak has taken the weekend off to enjoy the fun.

Arriving today were World Champions Harley Clifford and Raimi Merrit from Australia and the USA, past World Champions Andrew Adkison and Robbie Rendo from the USA and Argentina, Rookie of the Year Steel Lafferty and rising star Daniel Powers from the USA, the British title challenger Dan Nott, and many others. Just walking in the door right now are Belgium’s Elke Venken and Netherlander Michael Timmers. With Practice kicking off at 07.30hrs on Friday, its time for some serious business.

The Sarawak Regatta has already started. With over 6,000 Paddlers in 400 Long Boats, its an extraordinary sight. Villages have their own specialist crews and honour is at stake here ! The roaring crowds and huge sound system was deafening today and has created a very special atmosphere. With over 140 years of history, we can only imagine what winning must mean. Its the Super Bowl and Rugby World Cup combined !

Hanifah Yoong’s team and the Sarawak State Government via its Ministry of Tourism and Heritage have done an outstanding job. This is certainly the way to expose our sport to valuable new audiences around the world. Of course it also help to support our WAKEBOARD 2020 VISION project for the Olympics bid on the horizon.

Good luck to all our World Cup Rider in this fantastic location of Kuching. Put it on your vacation list right now !
