This really is almost beyond what humans can achieve ! When Jaret Llewellyn CAN set one of the first Ski Fly World Records on Robin Lake at the US Masters, I was there and could hardly believe my eyes. To see a human body hit a Jump Ramp and then fly that far is an extraordinary experience.

So, when WORLD CUP JUMP CHAMPION Freddy Krueger USA, announced that he would attempt to break 300ft for a new SKI FLY RECORD to be honest my first thought was for his safety. This is very dangerous stuff !

Just minutes ago, the world headline news announced the impossible. FREDDY AWESOME KRUEGER today jumped a distance of 312ft at the MasterCraft Throwdown and survived. His take-off speed from the Ramp was over 80MPH !

What an extraordinary achievement. Congratulations seems to be too small a word – but Congratulation +++ to Freddy. Take a look at this Promo to get a sense of what its all about https://youtu.be/rMDXZGtBKY8

SKIFLY WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT OF BREAKING 300 FEET IS COMING RIGHT UP

MasterCraft and Freddy Krueger USA will go live for 90 minutes in the USA on Saturday August 8th on ABC at 14.30hrs EDT.

If you are living in the USA, whatever you do, DO NOT MISS THIS.

Here is the story – in old fashioned feet and inches !

In May 2000, on Robin Lake in Callaway Gardens GA at the US Masters, Canadian Jaret Llewellyn did what was then considered impossible. He scored a Jump distance of 299ft. on a SkiFly Jump Ramp. That involves a hang-time in the air which seems to go on for ever. SkiFly is a hybrid version of Waterski Jumping – and the danger element increases exponentially as a result ! Few have the skill to even attempt it. DO NOT TRY THIS ON YOUR LAKE ! Critical adjustments are needed – Boat Speed of 45mph – and increase of 10mph over Waterski Jumping, The 75ft tow rope is increased to 105ft to boost the severe pendulum impact. The ski pylon in the MasterCraft will be raised by 18ins. Finally, the Jump Ramp itself will be altered by making it slightly lower by 2ins from the usual 6ft and also lengthened by 2ft 6ins to a total of 24ft 6ins. It then become a launching pad. When all of these factors are combined, the speed at which the Skier hits the base of the Jump Ramp will be close to 70mph. The timing of that half second on the SkiFly Ramp must be perfect to be able to absorb over 3G’s pressure – and then the long flight in the air will be a whole new experience for the few who will ever try to make this happen. What a prospect – wish we could all be there to support our World Cup Star.

CAN OUR WORLD CUP AND WORLD JUMP CHAMPION FREDDY KRUEGER DO THE IMPOSSIBLE ?

To find out we will have to wait for August 8th – and wish Freddy Safe Jumping and a perfect landing on the water. We will post the details moments after he lands – so do watch this space.

SHOCK RESULTS AT MANDURAH WATERSKI & WAKEBOARD WORLD CUP THREATENED BY CYCLONE OLWYN IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

It was an extraordinary weekend at the 43rd World Cup Stop of the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF). For the fourth time, the City of Mandurah included Wakeboard and Waterski Jump in their Action Sports Games. With Dolphins, Pelicans and over 100,000 spectators on site plus athletes from 21 countries, this turned out to be a very different competition.

Three World Champions were destined this weekend not to take top honors at the Mandurah World Cup ! Only one would succeed. Nobody expected what would emerge. MasterCraft again provided the World Cup boats and the support services.

On Friday, Tropical Cyclone Olwyn delivered wind gusts of over 200kph as it vented its fury on the coastline north of Mandurah. Anticipating approaching trouble on the water, IWWF officials declared that Friday Jump performances might be used as the official results if conditions deteriorated. As it turned out, this was a wise decision. For the Wakeboarders, they were more fortunate. Their time slots delivered reasonably good conditions and towards Sunday Finals time, blue skies and sunny weather returned once again.

The drama began for the Jumpers on Friday. As an extreme sport, approaching a Jump Ramp at over 120kph is challenging at the best of times. Early influences of Cyclone Olwyn were already creating choppy waters. For the Women’s,eight athletes chased four final’s places. Lauren Morgan USA, Marie Vympranietsova GRE on borrowed equipment, Nancy Chardin FRA and Marion Ellis FRA were unable to get beyond 44.8m to qualify. Then followed a fantastic battle for the Podium. June Fladborg DEN pushed hard for 46.0m but was quickly beaten by the top seeds Jutta Menistrina FIN and World Record Holder Natallia Travers. With Travers 46.6m on the board, only the current World Champion Jacinta Carroll AUS remained. Having won the Moomba Masters just last week, and true to form, her 48.8m was yet another victory.

On Friday March 13th, thirteen Men Jumpers entered the water ! Conditions deteriorated and skies darkened. The first six Jumpers struggled for distance. Scot Ellis USA posted 55.2m at the half way mark. Now the battle was on. The Miranda brothers Felipe and Rodrigo CHI raised the tempo with 58.5m and 59.6m. Damien Sharman GBR failed to beat this as Igor Morozov RUS took the lead with an impressive 61.6m. Germany’s Bojan Schipner wowed the crowd with 63.3m to take the lead from the Russian. With just Ryan Dodd CAN and World Record Holder Freddy Krueger USA on the dock, a classic battle for gold lay ahead. Dodd immediately scored 64.0m on his final attempt as Krueger took to the water. Positioned back on his heels on Jumps 1 and 2 the fans could not believe their eyes his best was 55.1m so far. On Jump 3, often the clincher for Krueger, the SplashEye scoreboard showed 52.0m – and the World Record holder would not be on the Podium. In World Cup history, this was unprecedented. An IWWF World Champion was out of the medals !

For Women’s Wakeboard, the drama continued to make this an unforgettable weekend. With choppy waters, the Riders coped well. As usual, the Heats and LCQ’s saw the best survive – including the 16 year-old Australian sensation Chloe Mills. The outstanding performances at this point came from 2013 Mandurah World Cup winner Bec Gange AUS and IWWF World Champion Raimi Merritt USA. As the Finals began, more typical Mandurah weather returned. While Chloe Mills AUS and Ashley Leugner CAN performed well, the standard was just too high to progress. Bec Gange AUS was the first surprise. She was beaten by Sweden’s Rider of the Year, Carro Djupsjo. That left Nicola Butler USA who took silver here a year ago – and World Champion Raimi Merritt USA. In execution, intensity and composition, Butler was sensational. Her score of 54.56 presented a huge challenge for Raimi Merritt. Although Merritt was highly impressive, Nicola Butler could not be beaten – even by a World Champion. Yet another drama for the scoreboard !

The Men Riders had to battle through 4 Heats, 2 LCQ’s and 3 Semi-Finals. Greatly impressing the judges were past Mandurah World Cup medalist Shota Tezuka JPN, defending and IWWF World Champion Harley Clifford AUS, newcomer Noah Flegel USA, and past Athlete of the Year Massi Piffaretti ITA. In his Semi-Final, Clifford scored almost perfect marks, just ahead of Tezuka. All changed in the Finals ! Korea’s Yun Sang Hyun now set the pace with a score of 80.89. Cory Teunissen AUS came next with an almost perfect 92.67. Massi Piffaretti ITA got close with 86.78. This just left the super-stars Shota Tezuka JPN and Harley Clifford AUS. Tezuka was the first major upset with 84.45 with two better performances already on the board. Only Harley Clifford AUS could now change the leader board. As ever, his performance was almost flawless. However, on a day of unending surprises, his score of 91.56 was not enough to take the Mandurah World Cup 2015 title from Cory Teunissen AUS

It was a World Cup of new champions. Mandurah will have certainly got the fans guessing about the season ahead. From weather Cyclones to unending surprises on the water, this was certainly a special World Cup to remember.

http://www.iwwfed-ea.org/boatwake/competitions/2015

When Deputy Premier Minister Dr Kim Hames MLA wished all the contestants good luck at the Opening Ceremony in Mandurah, few could have guessed the outcome. Event Organiser Tim Thirsk of Action Sports Promotions is already planning a return to Western Australia in 2016.

MANDURAH WORLD CUP 2015 SENSATION – KRUEGER NOT IN FINALS !

It has been an extraordinary Friday and Saturday here in Mandurah, Western Australia. Following a very impressive Press Conference with live TV cover and a wonderful Opening Ceremony featuring the Traditional Owners, athletes from 21 countries battled for Finals places. The Riders still have a phase to complete tomorrow morning, Sunday. For the Jumpers is was a different matter !

A tropical cyclone hit the coast north of Perth on Friday. This impacted the Waterski Jump conditions. The courage of eight women was tested but they impressed all with some truly gutsy performances. Jacinta Carroll AUS continued her winning ways with 48.8m to come out on top. Next came Natallia Berdnikava BLR 46.6m, Jutta Menistrina FIN 46.1m, and June Fladborg Asher DEN 46.6. As the top four, they now go to the Sunday Finals.

On Friday 13th the 13 Men Mandurah World Cup Jumpers faced a huge task. You could feel the tension in the air right from the start. The entry list included the very best in the world. With only six Finals places, it was always to be a tough battle of wits, skill and courage. Number six off the dock, Scot Ellis USA, set the pace at the halfway mark with 55.2m. Choppy water at the base of the Ramp was an issue. This was followed by a succession of solid performances : Felipe Miranda CHI 58.5m, Rodrigo Miranda CHI 59.6m, Damien Sharman GBR 57.5m, Igor Morozov RUS 61.6m, Bojan Schipner 63.3m and Ryan Dodd CAN 64.0m. Damien Sharman with 57.5m was the one on the bubble as the last contestant, Freddy Krueger USA, took to the water. What followed stunned all present. His set was 54.2m, 55.1m and 52.0m ! In all, he was back on his heels. The World Champion and World Record holder did not make it to the 2015 Mandurah World Cup Finals ! No doubt Freddy Krueger will blow everybody away at another future event very soon. The 2015 Mandurah World Cup Final will not however see him on the Ramp on this occasion. Damien Sharman GBR took that last Finals place.

MANDURAH WORLD CUP FACES POSSIBLE THUNDER STORMS AND SCHEDULE CHANGES IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA THIS WEEKEND

With the 43rd Waterski & Wakeboard World Cup Stop scheduled for this weekend in the beautiful Indian Ocean City of Mandurah in Western Australia, approaching weather systems are causing some concerns. Only once in it’s successful history has the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) had to alter it’s World Cup programme. That was in Changshu China almost ten years ago ! The weekend Action Sports Games activities will also include FMX, BMX, Scooter and Skate.

With thunderstorms and rain forecasted for this coming Saturday and Sunday, one option being considered is to bring forward part of the World Cup schedule to Friday, March 13th. Temperatures are set to drop from 33C to 25C. An announcement is expected shortly. The Official Opening Ceremony is scheduled for 18.30hrs onsite on Friday. This will be attended by Hon Dr Kim Hames, MLA, Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Tourism, the City of Mandurah Mayor Marina Vergone and many other dignatories.

Waterski and Wakeboard athletes from 21 countries will take part, including Argentina, Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Thailand and USA. Following their gold medal successes in last weekend’s Moomba Masters in Melbourne, the entry will include Freddy Krueger USA, Jacinta Carroll AUS and Harley Clifford AUS. Krueger and Carroll took the Waterski Jump titles in Melbourne and Clifford the Wakeboard title. All will push hard to make it two major successes in a row, weather permitting. As it happens, all three will also defend their 2014 Mandurah World Cup titles this weekend. Raimi Merritt USA will also take part as the Mandurah Wakeboard 2014 defending champion.

At this time, our very best World Cup RIDERS and WATERSKI JUMPERS are packing their bags for the journey to the beautiful City of Mandurah ! Some will also compete in Melbourne’s Moomba Masters on the previous weekend. ‘Located right on the pristine shores of the Indian Ocean and a short drive south of Perth in Western Australia, our athletes will share the water with the local Dolphins and Pelicans and they may even drop by to watch the action. Last year, Dolphins came right in to share in the competition area !

The #MandurahWorldCup and #ActionSportsGames Timetable is a hectic one. Somehow, we must also squeeze in a major Press Conference near Perth. Last year, this was covered in Prime Time TV and hopefully this will again ensure that the 100,000 plus spectators will return to share in the fun. The Channel 7 Crab Fest will also boost the numbers on site over the holiday weekend.

WATERSKI & WAKEBOARD WORLD CHAMPIONS LINE UP TO OPEN WORLD CUP SERIES
MANDURAH WESTERN AUSTRALIA MARCH 14/15

Looks like a USA v Australia showdown at the first 2015 World Cup Stop!

The success of the annual Action Sports Games in Mandurah Western Australia has attracted huge global TV audiences since the arrival of the World Cup Series there three years ago. With 986 hours of global Airtime achieved last year in 88 countries for the edited World Cup TV show, Mandurah will once again present the best Waterski Jumpers and Wakeboarders to over 100,000 spectators on site on March 14/15. This might just push the TV Airtime to over 1,000 hours for the first time ever?

This year, there will be three action packed zones at this pristine Mandurah site just south of Perth on the shores of the Indian Ocean. These will cover Wakeboard and Waterski in the Watersport zone, plus special zones for FMX and Skate/BMX.

World Waterski Jump Champions Freddy Krueger (USA) and Jacinta Carroll (AUS) will join World Wakeboard Champions Harley Clifford (AUS) and Raimi Merritt (USA) at this 43rd World Cup Stop of the Series. This has all the appearance of being a spectacular Australia v USA battle for World Cup honors.

Freddy Krueger will certainly be stretched all the way by Canada’s Ryan Dodd and Russia’s Igor Morozov. Since 1999, Krueger has broken the World Jump Record an extraordinary nine times. So far, he has proven to be almost unbeatable. World Jump Champion Jacinta Carroll will have the advantage of the huge home crowd on her side. However, Natallia Berdnikava BLR has broken the World Jump Record three times since 2011 alone. She will desperately want to get her 2015 World Cup season off to a flying start. Finland’s Jutta Lammi is the dark horse this year and both Carroll and Berdnikava will definitely be on their guard!

Wakeboard superstar Harley Clifford, much like Freddy Krueger, is also almost unbeatable. As both World Cup and World Wakeboard Champion, he will want to retain his coveted Mandurah title. The threats are most likely to come from Japan’s Shota Tezuka and fellow Australian Tony Iacconi. All have trained hard in preparation for this showdown. Raimi Merritt (USA) has already won nine World Cup titles to date, going back to her first in 2008 in Egypt. She has to be the Mandurah hot favorite right now. However, Australia’s Bec Gange took the 2013 World Cup title here and will be loaded with confidence. Watch out also for Carro Djupsjo (SWE) and Nicola Butler (USA) who have that extra star quality.
